Bradley handed me a computer bag with the computer and the SD cards. “Everything has been copied and is being gone over at my security firm,” he said.
“We did find on link already to your office at work,” said Bradley.
“Wait, from the laptop I gave you?”
“Yes, someone used that computer to send a data file on you to a trafficking ring,” Bradley said. “I don’t want you to worry. I have my best people on it.”
“Do you think the Howlers’ MC are back and a part of this?” I asked Bradley.
“Let’s assume yes and keep your eyes open for them. I have people working on it,” he said. I nodded. Jonathan came up behind me. I turned to look up at him.
“You will go ahead of us and start the exchange. Make him bring Jessica out to you. Do not go inside any barns or the house.” He pulled my chin up. “I mean it, little one. Don’t follow him inside unless it is absolutely necessary.”
I took a deep breath to calm myself. I spoke to him in my thoughts. “I will do my best not to. Don’t forget we can communicate this way. Just hearing you here,” and I pointed to my head. “Makes me feel as if you are right there with me.” Then Jonathan kissed me.
I drove up to Sam’s old house. “Jessica’s car is here,” I said in my thoughts to Jonathan. Sam’s house was so run down and falling apart. It made my heart hurt. I took a deep breath and I got out of the car.
A man wearing a mask came out of the barn. I grabbed the computer bag and then remembered the video of Jessica and that she had been stripped of her clothing. I gathered my power and swirled my hand over the back floor of my car and grabbed a robe out of the magic. I draped it over my arm. I walked halfway and stopped.
“Let me see Jessica,” I said. “You will get the computer when she starts walking to me.”
The man in the mask shook his head. “When are you going to learn that you are not in charge here, Kate?” A dart shot out and landed in front of my foot. “That’s just a warning shot. Be a good girl and bring me the bag,” the man in the mask said.
“Now bring me the laptop, Kate.” Calming myself, I gathered my power forming a barrier around my skin. I had a flash of the woman on Tom’s desk. She had been drugged and was unable to move. I was not taking any chances with that shit. I walked about ten small steps and stopped. I threw the computer bag to the ground and pulled a gun out of my pocket that Bradley had given me, and I held it down at the computer. I cocked the gun and shot the ground next to the computer bag.
“I will destroy the computer if Jessica doesn’t start walking out to me right now. I’m done playing games with you, asshole.” He pulled her out from behind the door by a chained collar around her neck, and her hands were also chained together. She almost fell when he yanked her out to him. It pissed me off, and I shot the edge of the computer bag.
“You must not be very interested in this computer. I would be very careful with how you handle my friend. Release her from the collar and chains, NOW,” I demanded.
He started to release her from the collar, but I heard something whistling through the air. My wolf hearing picked up on it, and I moved just before it hit my arm—not that it would have done anything with my barrier up. But they didn’t need to know I had powers. The dart hit my car behind me. I opened my feelings and my wolf sense to search the tree line; I tilted my head when I found a heartbeat. I used my mind to yank whoever shot the dart out of that direction it came from. A man yelled as he came tumbling out of the tree at the edge of the forest line. Then I looked at the man in the mask.
“You really don’t want to play this game with me. Now let her go.” He pushed her forward. She stumbled but then began walking toward me. I heard the man who had fallen scream as he was snatched into the woods and disappeared into silence. Jessica had only made it about five steps away from me when I noticed the chains on her hand kept her from reaching me.
“It’s attached inside,” she said.
“That motherfucker.” I was pissed. I walked to Jess holding the gun on the man in the mask and wrapped the robe around her shoulders. I grabbed the metal links with my left hand and began to focus my power in my hand. It began to vibrate and rattle.
“What are you doing? What is that sound?” said Jess, breaking my concentration. I didn’t realize how much power I had gathered and just as l blew the links apart, Jessica and I were thrown apart from each other also. “Shit!”
I sat up and I saw the man in the mask standing over Jessica. He smiled at her and held a gun on her. I flung my hand up as he shot the gun and I froze everything around me. Jessica screamed, then realized the bullet stopped.
Jess rolled to the side and picked up the robe as she yelled, “WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED?” and she ran to me. Just as she made it to me everything unfroze. The man in the mask looked around him as he saw Jessica was no longer in front of him. The bullet hit the ground. “It’s you,” he snarled.
Guns started going off, and Bradley and Jonathan’s teams were taking out all the men they could find.
“I told you to come alone.” I saw the man in the mask pick up the computer that had also moved toward him when I blew the chains. I held my hand out and threw the computer from his hand. “It’s you! I’ve been looking for you.”
Just then one of Bradley’s men, Kyle, came up behind the man in the mask and held a gun to his head. “On your knees,” Kyle ordered the man in the mask.
Just as he went to kneel, the man, in the mask made his move, and suddenly, they were fighting. The man in the mask waved his hand, and Kyle went flying back into a tree. The man in the mask’s eyes went from black to red from smelling the blood and wanting it.
“What the hell just happened?” Jess said, shaking. I pulled her toward the car.
“Um, yeah, we’re Nephilim, and you’re my long-lost sister. Now get in the car.” I watched the man in the mask drink from Kyle. Then he blurred and pick up the computer bag. He grinned wickedly at Jess and I as we had gotten to the car.
Just then, I heard the rumblings of motor bikes. “Shit!” I looked and then looked back, at the man in the mask as he said, “Did you really think it was going to be that easy, Kate?” Then I saw two familiar faces in the crowd of the New Howlers’ MC’s.
Right smack dab in the middle front row was Jake Rickman, the man that had stolen my accounts at work and the reason why I no longer had a job. Then a man I thought was dead from the night my brother took out the Howlers’ MC’s the first time. It was Greg. The asshole who killed my best friend Sam and who said I was to be his new bitch.
“Fuck!” Jake had a wicked grin on his face.
Shit, shit, shit, I thought.
As they formed a huge circle around my car. Jonathan must have felt my panic, because I suddenly felt his Alpha power. “Stay calm, I’m right here with you.” I heard Jonathan in my thoughts. Then I felt his Alpha power rolling off him to calm me.
“Now let’s see,” the man in the mask said as they surrounded Jess and I. “You’ve put two of my men in the hospital and got them arrested. Oh, let’s not forget the two women you cost me also that day.”
Two women? I thought. I only knew of the one on Tom’s desk.
Then, I heard in my thoughts, “Bradley found another woman in your basement.” My eyes went wide. “He didn’t want to upset you any more than you already were. So, he and Daniel took care of it,” Jonathan said in my thoughts. “Both girls are fine now. Thanks to you. They were victims of kidnapping.”
“So, I guess I will just have to settle for the both of you, to take their place,” he said, pointing at Jess and me. “I bet I could fetch a pretty penny for the two of you.”
That’s when my brain kicked in and the hairs prickled on the back of my neck. “Jess,” I said quietly, “get in the car.”
She did, and I swirled my hand over the lock to lock her in. That’s when I heard the whistling through the air and saw three darts coming at me. I stopped them and flung them back to the direction they
came from, hitting the men in the trees.
“Aw, fuck!” one yelled, and then fell to the ground and didn’t get up.
That’s when I heard, “Get your ass in the car!” in my thoughts. Just then I saw Bradley jump and flip over the Howlers’ MC circle, taking out a biker’s throat with his bare hands. His hands had claws like Jonathan’s had been the night he claimed me.
Blood dripped from his hand, and he dropped the man’s throat onto the ground. I gasped, seeing my brother that way for the first time. Bradley stared down Rickman. “I don’t think we have met. But I will give you one chance to save your men and leave this place and to never come back.”
Jake Rickman scoffed at Bradley and said, “I don’t think so. Your little sister and I have some unfinished business to deal with.”
“Kate, get in the fucking car and go,” Bradley ordered. I swirled my hand over the lock and got into the car.
“My name is Jake Rickman, and I am the Pres. of the New Howlers’ MC. See, years ago, my father ran the Howlers’ MC. I was in the military when I got a call from my little brother Greg, here. He told me that he had been in a fight to claim a new bitch, and then what do you know, that night our father, the Pres. of the old Howlers’ MC, and all his men were suddenly taken out that same night.
“See, Greg here escaped that night because of some good friends of mine got him out for me. I did some research and it all comes back to your family being responsible for what took place that night,” said Jake. “Now I am back, and I am claiming my father’s throne. Before the night is through, you will be bowing down to me. We are not going anywhere.”
Just then, I heard and then saw a dart going straight for Bradley. I jumped out of my car and froze the dart just before it hit Bradley in the chest. He flinched, looked at me, nodded a thank you, and grabbed it out of thin air.
“I am done with this shit,” I said.
I searched the tree lines and found four more heartbeats higher up in different directions, and I yanked each motherfucker out of the trees. They fell to their backs and I flung their dart rifle fifty feet away from them. Bradley’s men surrounded them in seconds. I glared at Rickman. I saw his eyes flash red, as if he were in the process of changing into a vampire. I gasped in shock and looked at the man in the mask.
Jess had climbed into the back seat of the car when she got a look at Rickman. I felt dirtiness and disgust from her. I looked from him to her and I saw her shudder. Just then I saw something flash by the back of my car, knocking two bikers off their bikes behind my car. Jessica screamed in the back seat; they landed, and blood spattered all over the window. I saw Carson as he stood up with one of the men’s throats and the other guy’s heart in his hands, and then he dropped them as he came and stood near me.
The man in the mask ran for his truck, as all hell broke loose and Bradley threw the dart, that I had frozen using my power at the man in the mask, hitting him just as he made it to the truck. Bradley expertly started taking biker after biker out, moving closer to get to the man in the mask. But Rickman ordered the retreat and for one of his men to get Owen, the man in the mask, out of here. I heard Jessica scream as a biker was thrown and landed on the hood of my car with his throat ripped out and then rolled off.
I got back in the car. “How did you pull those men from the trees with your hands?” Jessica asked, trembling. “What is going on? I saw your eyes in the side mirror; they changed,” she said, grabbing her head.
“I promise I will explain everything later, sweetie. So much has happened in the past week.” I saw Bradley and his men entering the barn. Jessica was curled into a ball and freaking out. “Everything will be okay,” I promised.
Jonathan opened my car door. I moved over. Carson got in from the other side and climbed in the back with Jessica. She screamed as he lifted her onto his lap. “Jessica,” I grabbed her hand. “There with me, Jess. It’s okay. This is Carson.” She calmed as he looked into her eyes.
“Just breathe with me,” Carson told her. “It’s okay, no one will hurt you ever again.” He rubbed her cheek. “I promise you that,” said Carson. I let go of her hand. She stared at him, mesmerized by him. He cupped her face and pulled her into his neck and held her as he checked her wrist. He growled because they were red and raw.
“We need to get these off of her.”
I turned around to look. I grabbed the cuffs. “Tilt your head into Carson and shut your eyes,” I said. “I don’t want the particles getting in your eyes.”
“Wait, what are you going to do?” Jess said.
“I am going to use my power to blow them off of you,” I said.
“Wait—magic? This is not a time for sarcasm, Kate.”
“Ha, you’re funny, Jess. Now sit still and don’t break my concentration. I don’t want to blow off your hands by accident.” I smiled. She glared and Carson growled at my humor. I focused just a little bit of my power in my fingers and thumbs, where I held on to the cuffs. This time I blew them off each wrist and the cuffs fell to the floor. Carson kissed her red and swollen wrists. I touched them and put some of my healing light into them and the red and soreness went away. “You’re welcome.” Jess gasped in surprise. I smiled. “I told you a lot has changed in the last week. We have a lot to talk about, sister.” I turned around to sit.
Jonathan drove us down the road a few blocks. “What is that? Do you hear that?” he asked.
“Guys--” Carson said. I turned back to look, and Jessica was physically, vibrating.
“Shit,” I murmured. “I think it’s her magic reacting to mine, trying to get out. But she doesn’t know how to release it.”
“She has been bound for so long; her body is trying adjust to the power. Get us to Bradley’s security firm, quick. Jessica, honey, I need your hands. I need you to calm down and open your mind to me.” I made a barrier around her and, me. But it began to be too much the light around us got brighter and brighter. I flashed us to the old run-down cabin. Jessica tried to pull away.
“WAIT, DON’T BREAK THE CONNECTION, OR WE WILL TAKE OUT THIS WHOLE FUCKING PLACE.” Jessica froze.
“What!” She freaked out. Something came from inside me and used me for a quick second.
“Jessa LeAnne Nickels!” A voice came from me. “Feel the power flowing through you and your sister’s veins find your light inside you and connect to it.”
“What is this place?” she asked, looking all around us.
I looked at what she was seeing. I felt Momma all around us. “This is our parents’ first cabin.” I spoke to her with my mind. “You need to calm down and focus. Close your eyes and feel the peace and warmth inside you.” I felt her calming. I soothed her fears.
“Are you ready?” I smiled at her. I began to show her the past few days. Meeting Jonathan and the connection we had at our first look and touch. How I was lost in him and the intense feelings I felt for him. I let her feel the connection we felt. I showed her Tom and how I found him with the other women and what he was doing to her. She gasped. I showed her Tom and the other guy and how I had to fight for my life.
“Wait, that is Robby! He was supposed to be my blind date,” she thought to me. I showed her how Jonathan helped me and cared for me. I conveyed to her to expect the same from Carson.
“It’s a need in who they are as a pack,” I said in my thoughts.
As I showed her this next part, I whispered thoughts to her. I showed her a memory of “Momma”. I whispered in her thoughts I showed her the day we were born and the memories of Momma, showing me her joy and love, the first time she held us together. I showed Jess herself as a baby and how she was stolen from our bed as a baby, at the hospital, so she would know what happened to her and that she is my sister, and my twin. I showed her the memory of Momma and me trying to find her and the image of herself inside the cup.
Jess gasped. I said, “Momma used my blood magic, to call your blood magic,” and I saw her crying.
Tears fell from Jess. “That was the day Richard my ad
opted dad was attacked trying to save me and he died,” she thought.
I showed her Momma looking in the cup. “Don’t worry, baby girl, we are coming for you,” Momma had said. Jessica cried.
Then I showed her the accident, and the man trying to grab me and how I burned him. Momma saving my life and binding my powers and taking my memories of everything, and then Momma dying. I showed her the day we met.
She gasped. “I walked into the road, and our father saved me. We were looking for you that day.”
Jess gasped. “That’s what you meant,” said Jess.
I moved back on to Jonathan me together and showed her that I shifted into a white wolf after Jonathan and I were um were intimate and how he bit me. She just looked at me, and I blushed. I let her feel the love also, so she didn’t fear him. She gasped. I took her fear and calmed her and soothed her. “I am happier than I ever have been.”
She stared at me with tears of happiness. “I found my real family, and I feel sadness for all that was missed and was lost to us. So, I have this power also?” she asked. I looked at her with a huge smile. I felt her get anxious. Then I showed her our true nature. She gasped when she saw my wings. Then I pointed to hers and she gasped as she looked as she saw her own wings.
“Don’t worry; I will help you and teach you to control all of this.” I showed her memories of Momma, teaching me so that she could recall them anytime to learn from them also.
Jess gasped. “She was a badass.”
I laughed. “Will you show me how the guy with the mask got you and what happened?” I thought to Jess.
“Robby and I were going to meet at Mario’s. I waited and waited, and he never showed up. So, Mario walked me out and waited for me to get into my car and to leave the parking lot,” she said. “But the man in the mask was already in my car. He made me drive out of Mario’s parking lot. He told me that if I signaled him in any way, his men in the parking lot would kill the nice man. He had me follow his directions and we end up at Sam’s old house. I was going to try to push the security button in my car, but before we got out of the car, I felt a prick in my neck, then I couldn’t move, and I passed out. He must have carried me into the barn. When I woke up on the floor with my hands chained together in front of me and attached to a chain hanging from the ceiling--” She stopped and shook her head, and tears flowed down her face.
